Done is better than perfect

Keeping up the momentum when it comes to anything social media-related doesn’t seem to be my strongest point, and there are times that I feel slightly envious of people who seem to constantly have a social media presence and post weird and wonderful stuff all over the internet.

I pick myself up every once in a while and make a renewed effort to keep you all updated on the latest developments, my insights and my musings. But I have to be realistic and admit that I don’t have a team of social media gurus behind me that might even be doing the posting for me, so there is no fair comparison between what I put out there and what I sometimes think I have to compare myself with. It’s ‘just me’. And actually, I’m okay with that, if I really think about it.

So... Done is better than perfect, right? Of course I’ve known this for a long time. I’ve told myself many times as well that not everything I do needs to be perfect. But it is something I’ve had to work on accepting and implementing in my life as this ‘voice in my head’ was telling me otherwise from an early age: ‘It’s not good enough’.

Perfectionism has positive and negative sides. It can really push you to deliver quality in whatever it is you do, but it can also put the brakes on and paralyse you if you think that it isn’t quite good enough yet.

Just like this piece of writing... could it be improved? Most certainly.

Are there better ways to express what I want to say? Oh yes...

After putting this ‘out there’, will I think that I could have written about something else? For sure...

But am I putting this out there anyway? Yes.

Beating perfectionism is something that often pops up in conversations with my clients, and I keep reminding them to be gentle on themselves while we work on getting clear on their goals. Perfectionism often presents itself as a hurdle to showing up in this world as the person they really want to be, and to truly using their unique gifts they have to share to make their own lives as well as this world a better and happier place.

So here you go... I’m also going to be gentle on myself today. Done is better than perfect.

Let me know in the comments what you have been working on, but haven’t shared yet because you don’t think it’s quite good enough – I’d love to know and see how I can help you make a step forward!

Have a great week,

Renny
